No, I am not depressed

Just very very unwilling to do anything.

I am at this moment eating a second breakfast and sitting on my birth ball in my nightgown.....and it's going on noon.
My first breakfast was healthy oatmeal and orange juice. My second breakfast is 1 strawberry and cream cheese and 1 blueberry toaster struedel and milk.
Yes, I am a nightgown wearer. Especially when pants/shorts/bottoms become a joke to your ginormous 40+ week abdomen. I must say it is my favorite nightgown though. I got it in Otavalo, Ecuador at one of the oldest still existing open-air markets. Best 4 bucks I ever spent. I think it's actually supposed to be a dress but it's not exactly a fashion forward piece you'd see on Project Runway or anything.
Guess who else is in their pj's. A duh! Yes. We are lazy and slovenly. Carter still has oatmeal stuck to his chin. What a wonderful mother I am this week.

Now I must frantically think of something to do because said demanding toddler has stated that he no longer wants to be at home. "Out! Not home!" he says. Great. Where can I not embarrass myself or risk endangering the life of my child who I can't run and catch if he flees from my loving arms? Where can I wrestle with him in a parking lot while he thrashes and screams with the sun beating down on me and lovebugs swarming?
Do you see?

Geez. Off to make myself feel human.

Happy Due Date to me

It's official today. I'm due. Doesn't that sound threatening?
It was funny telling people today when they asked me when I was due that "Today" was the day. But don't worry ya'll, I'm bouncing on my birth ball as we speak and I just finished a pineapple smoothie....all supposed to get things going. Haha. Yeah right. Babies just come when they want to come, I'm certain now. I've tried pretty much everything to get this one out into the world but he is stubborn like his mama.

********************

Officially, we will be limiting our public excursions from here on out...or eliminating them altogether. It was a wee bit rough on me today trying to take our guy to a simple storytime at the library. I kept on getting looks from the other mothers as every youngster paid attention to the book that was being read while my little joy yelled, jumped up and down like a human pogo stick, dragged furniture around and made the air rather smelly as he tried his darndest to "POOP! MAMA!" Poor child is constipated.
Then he fell and busted his head and screamed for "ICE!!!!!" which the library does not have. Damnit.
I'm sweating, my maternity pants are falling off my hips and exposing lots o'skin and my shirt keeps coming unbuttoned and exposing even more skin. Lawwd. I didn't exactly blend into any background in the 30 minutes I was there. I might as well travel with my very own spotlight.
Luckily we had a friend there for support and later when Carter threw his 4th screaming tantrum (away from the public eye, thank goodness) I was able to shrug it off with a big sigh. Even Carter's little girlfriend told him "Don't cwy Cawter, is otay".

The latest adventures of us crazy circus folk

See recent post on sleep success:

I must have spoken too soon...again. I should know better.
My darling boy has kicked his daddy to the guest room the past two nights as he has wrestled with his recent demonic possession. Good grief. If a feather floats into the room at night he wakes up. If the door is open he freaks out crying and thrashing and needs to close it. If you breathe too loud he flops around like a fish out of water.
What's going on with him lately?
The days aren't much better, lemme tell ya. He must be going through something right now that I am unaware of....some toddler ailment of the mental sort? I just hope it passes because I can't take it much longer. I'm running a little thin these days (emotionally, hormonally and mentally). Phew.

Anyway, a recap of the last few days.....

I know you are all waiting with bated breath for the big announcement but I don't have one as of yet. No changes. Still pregnant.
I'm slowly starting to develop a complex as I've become very popular this week, all of a sudden. Texts, emails and phone calls are coming non-stop, "Had that baby yet?" and "Are you still pregnant?" seem to be the top opening lines. :) Grrrrrr.
So Saturday we went to the zoo to try to "Walk dat baby out!" (me following advice from people at Walmart. Great!)
It was an impromptu trip but we threw together some snacks and popped the wagon in the van and we headed out. Oh, and don't forget the mini radio for my husband's crack-like addiction to MSU football. Damn Cowbells.
Our zoo just seems to get smaller and smaller each time we go but Carter still gets a kick out of it so that makes it worth it; plus it costs like 2 dollars to get in...can't beat that. We pulled our little Pasha around in his wagon while he snacked and commented on all the "AnMalls!". He loved it and did so well. In fact this day was the last day of good behavior we've had. Hmmmmm. We left it at the zoo, I see. It was probably the best little family day we've had in a while. Kevin only checked the score 3-4 times, Carter was sweet and obeyed the rules and I waddled happily. Ahhh.

Then....Sunday. Hmmm, let's skip Sunday. Sunday sucked. Bad moods, no sleep, blah, blah, blah....
But we were given a new book for the boys. Everyone remember Where the wild Things are ? Well, it's a classic but I remember it scared the hell out of me when I was little. However, I'm thinking that Carter would really like the monsters and stuff and the little boy who tames them. Well, no.
He didn't.
In fact we only got about 4-5 pages in before I realized that the concerned and kinda angry look on his face is also his not-so-sure-about-this,-i-think-i'm-kinda-scared face. He finally was like "Noooo book, Mama" and closed it up, carried it over to the bookshelf and put it up "High!". He won't even entertain the idea of looking at it again. Poor baby. I might as well have just let him watch The Shining at age 5 (thanks Dad!).
So from now on we will stick to the books about "AnMalls!" and dinosaurs and other classics like The Three Bears (which is the current favorite around here).

On Monday we got a belated birthday present for Carter via the ever-loved UPS man. He opened it up and said "Siiing!". It was a shiny, little red piano just for him. He jumped up and down in the kitchen and plopped down in front of it like a little Linus from Charlie Brown. So now we gather around the family piano and sing renditions of the theme songs to The Wonder Pets, Diego, Dora the Explorer and the ever popular Wow Wow Wubbzy while Carter bangs away happily on the keys. Liberace, minus the gold pantsuit and glam-god glasses.

Bringing us to Tuesday... I had my 40 week appt with the doc. Like I said, nothing happening. Sorry.
At lunch we had a guest, though. Carter invited his Little Tikes tricycle to join us. His little-boy "Bike" got a Snoopy bib and lots of parmesan on his spaghetti. He fed him with his own fork and made chewing noises. I was half laughing and half "Quit playing with your food!". This is how I spend most of my days.....half trying to discipline and parent my child and half just laughing at his antics.
So there ya have it. The last few very exciting days. Today we will try to get out of the house and I will try to stop stressing out about the fact that I'm still very pregnant and if anyone knows a good exorcist, send me his number. :)
I would like sleep again....just for a wee bit.

Prodromal Labor

Apparently that is what I'm having. In fact, 2 lovely days of it so far with probably more on the way. Ugh. God forbid I ever just do something and get it over with. Noooo, I have to do it in spurts and really drag it out. I guess I'm just squeezing every last bit of fun out this experience since it will be my last. :)
Anyway, the icky contractions usually begin around 2-3 a.m. and then last until about 11 a.m. when they become basically painless and sometimes just stop altogether. My poor husband is terribly excited that the "Big Moment" is approaching one moment and then let down when I call and tell him "Nope, not gonna happen today buddy". We'll see what happens but I'm still hoping for the next few days. Sigh.
Let's all stare at me like a pot of water about to boil, shall we?

Indigestion or Early Labor?

Haha! Who the hell knows... I'm tired of worrying about it anyway. He'll come when he comes and it will be in the next couple of weeks...guaranteed. However, I do feel awful right now but we are going to go about our day like normal. I need to get my Big Guy out of the house for a wee bit or else we will have a repeat of yesterday. We can't have a repeat of yesterday....Mama will need counseling.
I really think Mother's should have a Mental Health Day at least once a month, preferabley once a week. All I want to do right now is drop off my darling child with someone and go shuffling aimlessly around TJ Maxx or something. Maybe, check out one of those other discount "hunt for your bargain" type of places that you just can't go to when you have your child with you.
Anyway, nothing much happening at the moment except for the usual contractions plus some interesting twinges here and there. I expect my labor to be 120 hours long, at least. :)

It's a marvelous night for a Moondance

So it is a full moon tonight. This is my last chance. The hurricanes didn't do anything so now it's up to that moon....
Haha. I know our little guy won't stay up there forever but wouldn't it be nice to meet him sooner rather than later? Oh yes, I say.
In preparation I have power walked a mile and am sitting down with my Red Raspberry Leaf tea. Next I will go dance (or waddle awkwardly) around my backyard in those labor inducing moonbeams. I don't have any rituals or chants prepared but am open to ideas.
I'll let ya know how it all works out. :)

On a funny note... last night Carter wanted me to sit in the chair with him but it had become too uncomfortable so I stood up next to him instead and told him my "Butt was broken". He got a disgusted/perplexed look on his face, turned to his daddy and said "Dadda! Mama butt...broke". Kevin got a belly laugh out of that one. He's such a funny dude.

Minor vent-ation

Having just cleaned my house, basically going from room to room crawling like a dog, I have decided that any future toys given to my child(ren) will be burned. :)
I think that being pregnant has slowed me down alot (duh) but Man! I am sweating like a whore in church (<---I never get to use this southern analogy...funny me). I am not exactly as graceful at the moment, as I usually am. It takes me literally about 3 minutes to get my large, misshapen body back to a vertical position and by the time I'm up I've seen about 6 little things around the room that I will need to get back down for. Am I on a gameshow?
I think from now on all gifts to my kids should be donations to the Human Fund (Seinfeld reference) or something of that sort. Maybe stackable games, books or puzzles?....oh hell, who am I kidding? Those all would get strewn about too. Maybe I just need to get some knee pads and quit whining, huh?

I don't get to brag about much....

....but I feel I must say that it is 9am and my darling son just woke up. On top of that he woke up from out of his own bed. Can you say Yeehaw?
How often do you think I will get to sleep in til 9 o'clock when the new one comes? Not likely from what I've heard, but lemme tell ya this whole toddler bed experiment has blindsided me with it's success. I don't care if the damn thing is pushed right up to our bed!
I almost feel like we are entering the world of normal functioning people. Kinda cool. Get me my member packet and I.D. badge, people! I am almost one of you!
Hahaaa!
Anyway, our little man will crawl in our bed maybe 2-3 times a night but he is easily moved back to his own bed; sometimes awake but mostly after he dozes off again. He has fallen out of his bed a few times. In fact he falls out of it at least once a night so I have added enough blankets and cushioning on that side to almost have created a whole different bed. Momma paranoia.

What a way to start my day. I have nice cup of coffee, an obedient and sweet son, plans for chickfilA with the daddy....hmmm, what more could I ask for today? Ummm, how about LABOR damnit!
I'm starting to swell now (like a tick) and I must say my mood is not the greatest at this point. You would be diplomatic in referring to me as slightly irritable. In fact, if you are a rude restraunteur with aggressive tendencies (ie, accusing me of lying and calling me back on my cell phone to cuss my husband out) you may get me to drive up to your establishment to tell you off and call you a Redneck Moron. Yes. I am oh so proud of myself...but you just don't mess with a woman who is about to give birth. It's a rule. Kevin says "my Detroit came out" again and he thinks it's funny. I actually have a vague recollection of bobbing my head back and forth and swinging my finger in the air. I guess I was going for the Angry Latina. At least I didn't swear.... My dignity remains intact.

As far as being pregnant goes....well, I'm not going to rant because I know that every woman who is deep in the last few weeks of her pregnancy will say the same things, "How can I get any bigger?", "He/she just has to be coming early...", "I don't think I'll make it to my due date" and my favorite "GET OUT!"
It is mother natures way of preparing you for labor because what's a little pain when you are so damn miserable everyday.
Anyway, we are closing in on the Big Day so I will try to be patient. Yeah right, my greatest asset; patience. Suuuurrre.
Side note: I sure am loving the weather though...rainy and cloudy is just the way I like it! :)

Run for the Hills!!!

This is the attitude around this town right now. I swear, the whole Gustav thing is freaking people out. I understand the chaos that Katrina caused and the long recovery but come on....shouldn't we panic when the damn storm is actually a hurricane again and actually in the Gulf? We watched Katrina bear down on NoLa from the safety of Savannah....we watched it hit as all of our plans came crumbling down. We had jobs lined up already, we had friends all there, we had a house that we were closing on in 4 days.....ugh, that was a bummer. But things work themselves out and we didn't actually lose anything; not like so many others.
So this weekend is busy. We have Carter's 2 year birthday, reorganizing bedroom for babies arrival (complete sleeping upheaval expected), Labor Day and I was gonna try to send mental images to babes to come out and join us early. ;)
However, with people lining up at the gas tanks, evacuating, stripping down the stores of all essentials and so on, I think I will try to keep the babes 'up there' a wee bit longer and just try to get through the birthday and the possible storm.
We will not be running for the hills, so to speak but we are going to get a few essentials (gas, diapers, toilet paper, oatmeal....) and we do have the option to shoot up to Jackson to stay with Kevin's dad and stepmom. I'm not too worried.....yet. I generally am not a Mass Panic type of person. I'll wait and see...then I'll freak the f*&# out. ;)

I had my 36 week OB check yesterday and this sweet little guy is helping mommy out. He is head down and low and I am 80% effaced. Woopee! I told my sis that I've never been effaced before and in some moronic way I feel like I've achieved something. Hey, everything at this point is new because Carter was butt-ass backward.

I like to keep it General

Well, the bathroom is still not done but soon, very soon... I think I got a little stressed this weekend (slightly teary and morose) about it all but mostly I'm blaming it on the hormones going crazy and just being so damn exhausted it makes me want to cry. Ever feel that tired?

We did have a sort of break from it all when we got together with friends this weekend for our Supper Club (minus the actual cooking). It was really just an excuse to yap and have a pool party...oh and eat take out and lots of disgusting desserts. Yes, they were absolutely horrible....so horrible that I ate 3 bowls of this chocolate pudding, brownie, cool whip, toffee chip concoction and a big slice of apple pie. This after 3 sub bites and 4 pieces of pizza. I think I put my little womb buddy in sugar shock.
Anyway, Carter got the chance to show off to daddy in the pool and daddy was simply amazed at our Big Guy.
He kept on saying "He can swim!"....so proud.
I only had one heart attack when after leaving him under Kevin's watch I swam away to chat with the girlies....and look over to see my baby go tumbling off blow-up pool toy and go completely under water. (with his swimmies on, of course but.....)
Ahhhhhh! Someone save my baby!!! This is what I scream in my head.
Of course his father is like "Oh, he's fine."
Grrrrrr. Not on my watch, mister.
We all got home safe and sound and with many big plans for next month....depending on when our little guy comes along, of course.

Carter is excited for his Birthday coming up. He talks about turning Twoooo and having cake and balloons and pizza and presents.... ya know, all the things kids salivate yearly for. I think I'm just as excited. It also gives me a kind of date to go by in the sense that as long as I make it to like, September 1st, we're good....after that, come on baby!!
I am being extra vigilant that this little one doesn't flip on me. I am totally paranoid everytime I feel what I think is his head in the wrong spot. According to the doc last week, he was head down but I ain't counting my chickens before they're hatched. So if you see me doing odd poses in the next few weeks to ensure my baby's giant noggin is headed south, please ignore me and just chalk it up to my eccentric personality. Ahem. Eccentric...remember. And if any of you all know me...well, then you know I have Lists posted all over the damn house. What to buy before the Birth, What to get for the Birthday, What to do before the Birth, What things we need if anyone asks, Who to call and catch up with before I can no longer function as normal human woman, Grocery lists with coordinating stars for coupons.....they go on and on like this. I am the traditional List Maker.
Aren't you all just chomping at the bit for the Grand Posting of the Birth?? :)

Soon, ya'll....soon.

Wallpaper is for crazy people...or desperate people

Never hang wallpaper folks. In fact never redo a bathroom that hasn't seen any tender loving care in 40 years. Oh lord, what a mess. The floors are finally done (look great) and then we had to patch the 1001 holes and dents in the walls because we have no intention of messing around with new drywall. Once all 1001 holes were filled we looked at the walls and decided we needed to put texture or paper on them to cover all the messed up crap. Lo and behold they make texturized/paintable wallpaper these days. Kevin and I had an hour or so to ourselves at Lowe's where we decided that this would be the best choice....and somehow we both read the package as "Peel and Stick"...which it is not. Hell. We've never used wallpaper! It is a friggin' gooey, wet flappy mess.
It's very frustrating being this pregnant when all this is going on because I am a very hands on type of girl. I need to get in there and do stuff. Sigh. Instead I lean over my husband and friends shoulders and micromanage their every move Also, I am in charge of demented hyperactive toddler and his crappy-ass sleep schedule. This child is not getting to sleep before 10:30 each night. Grrrrrr.
Can someone please come be my errand person and run back and forth to Lowe's for each new little item we find we need? or grocery shop for me? or go get wrapping paper and wrap all of our man's presents....or go order the cake....or go get gas at Sam's club....or go get some tennis shoes for the boys with my coupon at the mall....argh. I'm so tired. zzzzzzzzzzz.

***********

Yesterday I had my 34 week appointment (out of 40 for all of you non prego specialists). I unfortunately had to bring along my Big Guy because daddy couldn't get home in time. Thank gawd for portable DVD players. Holy shitzle. He threw one major temper tantrum when we got there but then I turned on his DeeVee and all was well. Ahhhh. How did I survive before this? Anyway, baby is still head down (Yeah!!). I am still giant planet. That is all.

The difference between mommies & daddies

There are all these hormones surging through my body, essentially telling me how to behave at this stage in my pregnancy. I am not my own woman.

Throughout the world you see the females of virtually every species behave in a similar pattern when the time approaches for their young to be born. They flutter about nervously, they are agitated, they scurry around with bits of this and that for their "nest", they squawk or growl at their mates and sometimes they relocate to a secure spot somewhere; an optimal environment for their new babies to be born.

Well, you won't be seeing any expecting momma's flocking over to the McMahon's, lemme tell ya.

So according to dictionary.com, nesting is:
Nesting: v. to create and settle into a warm and secure refuge

According to this momma, nesting is:
Nesting: v. to get all your shit washed, folded, organized and installed. to make sure all toys have batteries and there is nothing broken that needs to be fixed. to make sure you have a surplus of necessary supplies and food. to sterilize, sanitize and clean the crap out of your home. to have your home peaceful and fully prepared for a fragile new life to begin there.

According to the daddy, nesting is:
Nesting: v. to take on a major nest improvement right before momma lays her eggs. to take momma's nest and totally shred a portion of it because you are thinking long term nest resale. to keep da momma on her toes and challenge her to a nesting duel.

Ah yes, Nesting....

Well, I was working on it.... until Friday, that is. Then came the demolition crew. Argh. Talk about going against every instinctual bone in my body. I am now 34 weeks pregnant and pretty darn ready to have this baby come out and my husband is ripping out our main bathroom. Gotta love him, though. He means well and I see his "grand plan" but now????
I have not washed my hair in 4 days and Carter and I have been taking sink and bucket baths. I sorta feel like I'm camping, except without the nature and bad cooking. My house is torn apart in the wake of the demo storm. Originally this was only gonna take the weekend (which made me laugh) now it should be done by this coming weekend (which still makes me smile a bit because I'm thinking of all the little things that my husband forgets).
Oh well, I'm trying to relax about it because we have been wanting to do the hall bathroom since the day we moved in and it just kept getting pushed behind. Now the fear is that we won't be doing much home improvement once our Little Guy comes along. It's been hard enough with just the one.
Hopefully by the time this upcoming weekend comes to a close we will have a bathroom we won't have to preface to our friends with "Um, sorry about the bathroom...." or "We haven't quite gotten to that part of the house yet..." or "Could you please hold it? We don't allow people to use our bathroom..."

And then I will be praising my husband's forethought. I know how this works...it's just nature that gets stressed about it all. :)

My babies

Sometimes I really don't see the time passing until I check my blog and see when I last posted. Then I'm kind of shocked and question what the hell do I do all week? I'll even check my sticker desk calendar with a perplexed kinda "huh?" noise. Well, I'll be.....

Anyway, blog time warp aside, I think we've reached a significant lag in our summertime activities. I am seriously a gigantic person and can't fit into any of my maternity clothes, save 2 dresses and 2 stretchy yoga shorts. Please see below my ginormity (not a word, I know).

Yes. This is I. At 32 weeks.....8 more to go.....good grief. Well, Carter knows all about his little brother now. He knows he will Cry! and that he will be responsible for hugging him and rocking him in the glider. He knows his little brothers name (super cute) and he knows that the baby kicks mommy (finds this hilarious) and sleeps a lot. I am terrified of the transition from one baby to two.

Earlier this week a neighbor of ours gave us one of those little mini playmats for baby that they never used and Carter had dug it out of the closet.

He was sitting on it and I told him "Honey, that's for the baby" and his reply was, "Noooo, Me baby!!!" pointing to his chest with the fingers of both hands. (very emphatically)

This just broke my heart.

"Yes, you are my Big baby and that is for the Little baby"

I will not steal his babyhood out from under his feet. He will depart from it all on his own when he is ready. I will just have two babies.

Here is my Big Baby using chopsticks for the first time:

Next month our little guy is turning 2 years old! Can you believe it?

I am scarred

The C-section scar doesn't really bother me anymore...it's just there, but it's not like anyone can see it. However, I am now horrified to admit I have just discovered my first Stretch Mark. Egads! I told ya'll this child was stretching me to my very limits, didn't I? It is only about 2 inches big but it is right over my belly button. How very inconspicous. Crap. Is this the end of my hot bikini body, I ask! Nooooooo! How ever will I get those digits next time I head to the waterpark?

Teehee.

On the family front: Carter threw a fork at a woman at Olive Garden last night....and hit her. Yes. I wanted to crawl under the table. The fork was covered in alfredo sauce and it flew end over end in slow motion, spewing cream sauce over the other patrons before it speared the poor old lady's leg. Argh.
"Um, sorrry!" I say pathetically as she just raises her eyebrows at me.
Kevin swooped him outside to have a "talk" with him. Very tense husband moment....he gets stressed with the public misbehavior. I have just given up trying to be suave mommy. Now I am messy mommy, sweaty mommy, frowning mommy, yelling mommy and "What did you just say?" mommy. Oh well.

Swim lessons cancelled again. Grrrrr. I am very schedul oriented. Now what the hell do I do to entertain child?

All about me: the big, fat, whiny pregnant woman

You know when you had a paper due in college and you just tried to avoid thinking about it in hopes that it would magically disappear? That is how I've been feeling about blogging recently. I'm not sure why....
Anyway, since I was raised on guilt and it flows in my veins I've forced myself to sit here and type something. :) Oh joy for all of you who even still read this, huh?

Well, our weekend was so busy that I actually have an excuse and since I ended up having to go to the hospital to make sure I wasn't in labor everyone should feel sorry for me. So in the 10 minutes of free time I have while Carter eats "Apple Jacks" and watches Diego......lemme fill ya in.
Anyone who knows me knows that I cannot not do something. In other words I am a control freak and have to be doing whatever it is that is going on. I am no good just lying there and resting .... this is driving my poor, suffering husband crazy. So friday was a big day because we were planning on having a garage sale on saturday. We finally realized that the "projects" we've been hanging on to and the various hand-me-downs were taking up too much space in our house and it was affecting our living conditions.
(Side note: I had a terribly hard time parting with a vanity that my mother and I worked on and that I have had since I was a preteen.....hand painted, old, hand stitched skirting....etc....she is probably rolling over in her grave.)
Anyway, here I am; very pregnant, having contractions, not drinking enough water, lifting things I shouldn't be....you get the picture. I'm a nitwit. So I had Braxton Hicks contractions from Friday evening until Saturday evening. A lot of them.....like every 5 minutes, and a lot of pressure and crampiness. These generally aren't good signs for a woman who is only 7 months pregnant (even though I look 9 months). I must say this pregnancy is rougher than my first. I'm not sure if it's because I am chasing after Carter so much or if I'm just getting old and out of shape. So we did the garage sale, made lots of moolah and then I sat on the couch trying to will my contractions to stop. This didn't work so off to labor and delivery where they strapped me down and ran tests......they essentially forced me to lie still for 1 1/2 hours. I realized then that this is the longest time I've been still in days. Even when I am "resting" at home I am getting up to get a toy that is dropped under the couch, or refilling a sippy cup, or answering the phone or getting a drink from the kitchen. So my contractions stopped in hospital and apparently I wasn't in actual labor...yeah!
I guess my uterus is like an olympic athlete training for the big event. A little bit of an overachiever if ya ask me.
Now Kevin is on my case about doing too much and since he started pointing out to me how many times in a day that I am doing what I am not supposed to be doing (moving things, lifting things) I see his point. But honestly, the way I see it....if I'm swinging a 26lb toddler around all day what's the difference if I'm lugging a box of toys from room to room. I mean, as an anthropologist (however inactive I may be) you wonder how women all over the world do it....baby after baby, working the land for their food, grinding grains, washing in the river, etc...... you get my point, right? I am the product of western culture, I guess; soft and whiny.
I felt much more powerful with my first pregnancy....wonder what happened.

Eat child, eat!

I will forever be amazed at the amount of oddball things a toddler can survive on. Yesterday, Carter ate 1 mini powdered doughnut, 3 noodle casserole bites, 8 raisins, 3 strawberries, 2 bowls of rice chex, some milk and juice. My formerly good eater has become a little bird, pecking at his food and his preferences change daily so I can in no way predict if I will be throwing out food over and over or if I haven't cooked enough and then have to deal with urgent screams of "MOOORRRE!". People with anxiety issues shoud be very aware of what having children does to you. I've become as jumpy as a water-bug lately.

So, pregnancy must make me even more homesick because I spent about an hour looking at the Grosse Pointe News online last night and feeling morose. I miss the smell of the lake. Is that weird? I miss showering after spending the day at the beach/park/on a boat. Maybe it's just that the summers here are so vicious...it probably makes me miss home more. Also, whenever Kevin goes out of town I feel like this....kinda abandoned (sorry honey).
It's a challenge to be "on" 24 hours a day with our little man and be pregnant. I must say though, that he is so damn cute. All of my stressed out fights with him melt away when I walk into a room and see him feeding his dinosaurs or giving his tickle-me cookie monster some of his milk. He cracks me up. When he is really into a cartoon I will just look at his profile and I can't decide who he looks like more; my husband or my mother. There is something about his facial expressions and mannerisms that remind me so much of Sheila but he has the look of his daddy.

Anyway, we are mightily bored around here but I am happy because I actually got to sleep a full night last night. Yeah! It's the little things.

Ahh, the guilt

The guilt of letting Caillou babysit while I sit at the computer. The guilt of checking my sitemeter and realizing that people actually check this blog everyday and I've been too lazy to write anything. The guilt of knowing I haven't called some of my friends back in over a month. Sigh. Does it ever end? :)

Well, since my child is sitting here transfixed with his cartoons I might as well update this damnity damn thing.
Let's see.....on Saturday we did a drive-bye birthday party where we rode the zoo choo-choo, I shoved 2 pieces of cake in my mouth and we dropped off a present for one of Carter's former mommy & me friends. We then spent 9 seconds listening to some good blues before the incessant Mississippi heat wore us down....that and the screaming of our overtired child who wanted to go play on the playground. No way. Pregnant mommy, sweat-drenched daddy and cranky child do not make for a chilled out time listening to live music in the park. Hell no. So home we went. Child napped, daddy and mommy showered again (yes, it's that time of year when you must sometimes take 2 showers in the day) and cooked enchiladas and guacamole for Mexican Night.
The 2nd meeting of our supper club went well. I drank a virgin margarita and ate a huge plate of food (+ dessert of course). Carter ran around yelling "Side! Side!" until we let him outside to play on the giant playscape with his friends. It was hot and all the adults lounged around and tried not to move while the kids ran up and slid down and whacked each other and gathered rocks and fought over a princess tea set and so on and so on. Finally we dragged our sweaty (he gets this from his father) child home and went night-night. Phew. What a day. It's so nice to get to socialize though...we will fight any battle with our child so that we may have intelligent conversations with other adults (intelligent, meaning no discussions about your favorite cartoon and no made up words that only our toddlers understand)
Hmmm, we were ultra lazy on Sunday. I think we were all worn out.

Yesterday I began my single mother act again (starting to get on my nerves). I did have plans to go to my pregnancy fitness class (which I haven't made in a month) so I ended up taking Carter with me at the teachers insistence. He did alright for about 45 minutes. He played nicely with a big box of toys on our mat and only annoyed the first time mothers a little bit and then he would stretch with me (super cute) and he would cuddle me when I layed back for pelvic tilts. :)

This morning we had a swim playdate at a friends and he got to "swim like a turtle"; his favorite thing to do these days. I swear this boy is a little water baby! He loves to count to three with mommy and then jump off the side and splash (of course with me catching him). I was only worried once when he climbed into the pool and right into the deep end before I could catch him. Luckily another mom caught him before he swallowed too much pool. I may be slightly more graceful in the pool but not much quicker. I still have quite a bit of girth...I'm not exactly sleek like a seal; more like a walrus.
I only had to yell at him about 15 times. Woohoo! ;)

Pregnancy update

So I am Fatty McFattyfoo. I am 24 weeks or 6 months pregnant and I have already gained 22 lbs. I really thought that I was eating less fatty stuff this pregnancy but my body seems to be packing on the pounds, nonetheless. When I was pregnant with Carter I gained 46 lbs by the end....hmmmm, I was hoping to gain less this time but it doesn't look good. They tell you that 25-35 lbs is normal....someone should whisper this to my babies because I don't think they got the memo.
Anyway, things are going well. Our little guy has officially been named but in true Mysterious McMahon fashion we won't be sharing the name until he is born. We are having major issues trying to find a middle name that works well with the first (we were hoping for a family name from my side). Oh well, it will come.
I have a lovely rotation of pregnancy gripes but really nothing too serious (except those scary heart palpitations they say are okay).
I have been trying to reorganize and do little things around the house in this pre-nesting panic. I am afeared that nothing will get done when #2 joins the family.
Yes, another fascinating blog entry.

Belly Shots

This is us playing at the park. I feel bigger than I actually look, I guess...

I am a hot mama watering my plants. Notice the hat that shrunk when I washed it? Now, remember I am 18 weeks...whick equals like 4 1/2 months? or something.

This weekend we went to the Art Walk downtown. Yeehaw, we just followed Carter around while he pushed the stroller. You may not be able to tell but he his harnessed and leashed in these pictures. This is a very handy little item for runaway youngsters. Once again, see belly.

I think I will officially retire this shirt back to the closet since it looks like it is about to rip wide open.

Misbehavin'

I'm afraid I may need the Super Nanny.... This little guy cannot be reasoned with in times of tantrums. I do not think I can take him to another doctors appointment, lemme tell ya. He was refusing to walk so I had to carry him everywhere while trying to balance a clipboard, paperwork, insurance info, my purse and snacks. Then when he spotted the Glorious Stairs he made a break for it because he loves them so. I had to restrain him as he screamed and threw himself on the ground in lobby/waiting area while I tried in vain to schedule my next appt and ultrasound. I could just see the little thought bubbles above some of these people's heads.....

"Why is she having another one when she can't control the first?" or "Can't she shut that kid up?" or "I can't believe she brought her child to her doctors appt!" or the ever famous "Pshh, my child will not act like that, let me tell you!"

Oh the glares and accusing looks. I just wanted to say in my best Southern speak "Hey ya'll! Bite me"

He then tried to run away from me in the parking lot as I struggled to get the van unlocked.
Once we got home he made a break for it and ran straight for the street.
I had finally had it. I threw everything down, grabbed him and "turned him over my knee" for a couple of swats. Well! The bottom lip came out and he sat quietly on the couch for about 10 minutes, every so often telling me how I "swatted" his butt.

Even today when I say "that's a No no no!" he says "no no no!" and pats at his bottom. Oh geez!
I just worry about his safety when he disobeys me. He will gladly throw himself down the stairs or run straight into the street rather than listen to me. Very frustrating phase.

I always like to end with something pleasant after I vent about Carters' highjinks.... so, we are at 16 weeks and everything is going well. My next appt will be the one when I find out whether it's a boy or a girl! Yeah, can't wait.
Annnnnd, I finally got to hear a darling little "Luff ooo" (love you) the other night before bed, followed by a mmmmm-mwah kiss. So sweet.
